Send well-wishes to your waffle-loving friends with this mailable waffle postcard. It takes a few days for the modeling compound and the “syrup” to dry, but it’s totally worth the effort. You won’t believe how real it looks when you’re done! And just imagine the smile on someone’s face when he or she pulls a waffle out of the mailbox. Priceless.

How to make a waffle postcard
Supplies:
- Waffle iron
- 1 package white Crayola Model Magic (found at most hobby and craft stores)
- 1 package yellow Crayola Model Magic
- Light yellow spray paint
- Brown spray paint
- Brown food coloring
- Clear acrylic paint or gloss glaze (found at most hobby and craft stores)
- Printout of waffle image on card stock
- Spray glue
- Contact cement or clear silicon glue
Instructions:
Remove white Crayola Model Magic from package.
Form into rectangle and place on cool waffle iron. (Do not plug waffle iron in!)
Flatten Model Magic with waffle iron. Repeat flattening until you get desired shape.
Remove from waffle iron and trim off any excess Model Magic. Allow it to dry flat for three days.
Remove yellow Crayola Model Magic from package. Shape and cut into small squares of “butter.” Allow them to dry flat for three days. Coat with clear acrylic paint.
After waffle is dry and hardened, spray both sides with light yellow and brown paints.
Add bursts of brown and yellow where it’s needed to make it look like a cooked waffle. Let it dry for a few hours.
Add a few drops of brown food coloring to a bottle of clear acrylic paint or gloss glaze. Mix well and pour over waffle to desired “syrup” effect. Allow it to dry for two days.
Glue a yellow butter square to the syrup side of the waffle with contact cement or clear silicon glue. Allow it to dry for 24 hours.
Print out image of waffle on card stock. (This PDF includes four images of waffles, sized 4 x 3-1/2 inches.) Cut out waffle postcard, spray glue on the back side and attach to the finished waffle.
Write your message and address on the postcard side. Add postage and mail! (Mine mailed for around $3 but shipping can vary. Have yours weighed at the post office to determine correct postage.)
