How to exfoliate your lips

As you go in for that first kiss, the last thing you want is the feeling of dry, cracked lips. A few simple tips can prevent this, so when your lips finally do touch, it will be magical.

One way to keep your lips plump and kissable is by using a scrub to exfoliate your lips. Always be careful with the scrubs you use though. Some can cause irritation and leave your lips cracked, and others can be too harsh and cause a burning sensation.

One product that we recommend that creates luscious, smooth lips is Sara Happ Brown Sugar Lip Scrub ($24). This product can be ordered online from the Sara Happ website and is also available at Nordstrom. The lip scrubs come in a variety of flavors including peppermint, vanilla bean and creme brulee.

One thing to remember when applying any type of lip scrub is to make sure that you are using a soft, new toothbrush; toothbrushes for babies seem to work best. The hard bristles of an adult toothbrush can actually make your lips rougher.

You can also make your own lip scrub from regular household items for smooth, kissable lips. One DIY lip scrub that we love is the “Au Naturel” exfoliator on Pinterest.

To create this lip scrub, all you need is three ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Mix all three ingredients and apply with the soft toothbrush. Rinse off the scrub with warm water and immediately apply your favorite lip balm. This scrub will leave your lips smooth and ready for your next kiss!
