Don’t bother with pricey tablet covers when you can make your own. Equipped with a trendy chalkboard for notes and to-do lists, this is one technology accessory that’s worth keeping for years to come.
Supplies:
Phone cover materials:
- Scrap of wool felt, approx. 4 x 12 inches
- Sewing machine with contrasting thread or needle and thread
iPad or tablet cover with chalkboard pocket materials:
- Scrap of wool felt, approx. 7 x 20 inches
- Scrap of contrasting wool felt, approx. 7 x 5 inches
- Chalkboard fabric square, 5 x 5 inches
- Hair tie or 3 inches of elastic
- One large button
Directions:
You’ll need a piece of canvas and cotton for the lining, plus a band of elastic the width of your tablet plus 1 inch.
Cut your lining and cover piece identically. The width of your tablet plus 1/2 inch on each side, and double the length of your tablet plus 4 inches. Now round out one end for the flap.
Pin elastic to the front top, about 1-1/2 inches down. Top-stitch pocket in place.
Sew cover and lining pieces right sides together, leaving an opening for turning on the straight side. Clip corners before turning.
Top stitch the top-front opening closed.
Iron then fold your cover over and top stitch layers together, starting under the elastic and checking with your tablet to make sure it fits tight.
Now you have a little flap to tuck into the elastic to close.
Before using any chalkboard, you need to “season” it to prevent staining. Simply rub a piece of chalk on the board and wipe it off. Now you’re ready for chalk, a chalk marker or a chalk pencil.
And here’s my happy little collection of tablet covers!
These are just too much fun!
Wouldn’t they make great gifts for teachers, hostesses or even the guys in your life?
