Looking beyond what is to imagine what could be can lead to amazing things. Take a look at the fascinating transformation of this dive bar into a modern home.
Most people walked by the former dive bar and saw an abandoned building. Eric Chez saw potential. After the Get Me High Lounge shut its doors, the building in the Bucktown neighborhood of Chicago sat vacant for two years. With the help of Fred Wilson, Chez transformed the vacant space into a sleek home. He purchased the building for $250,000, and after two and a half years of creative thought and hard work, it became the 5,000-square-foot living space it is today. The three-bedroom, two-and-a-half-bath remodeled house still embodies the “loungey” feel of the former bar, but the decor and layout represent the personality of Chez. The front room on the first level is furnished with upholstered benches, giving it a bar-like feel. The kitchen and dining room open up to the family room. From the master bedroom on the third floor, spectacular views of the neighborhood can be seen. The basement is the main attraction of this renovated space. It contains a theater and a built-in race car simulator. Its modern style and entertaining features make this house an urban dream.
