You know it’s important to schedule “me time,” but you don’t always have the time (or the funds) for a girls’ weekend or spa day. Instead of taking an all-or-nothing approach, start small and enjoy just 10 minutes for yourself.
Challenge: find an extra 10 minutes
Why? Caregivers that we are, women often have a hard time putting themselves first. Stop the excuses and find time to make yourself a priority. A cup of coffee, a phone call with a friend or a simple walk are all great ways to relax and recharge — in just 10 minutes.
Our ladies react:
Bouvier: It may not seem like much, but for a work-at-home mom, 10 extra minutes is hard to come by. After a long morning, my daughter is finally down for her nap. I look around the house, and notice that I’ve got dishes that need to be put away, laundry that needs to be folded, phone calls to return and emails to respond to. Then I remembered this challenge, and decided it can wait. I’ll take some time for myself, Starbucks Discoveries in hand, and enjoy this beautiful day in my backyard, even if it’s just for 10 minutes.
Danielle: I meant to find only an extra 10 minutes, but it turned into 30. I deserve it because I work hard trying to make #Disability the #NewSexyChic. Today, I decided to get a blowout during my lunch break. It was great to be pampered midway through a day that happened to be packed with some serious emotional problems that my clients were going through. Taking an extra few minutes allowed me to refresh myself and be an even more effective psychologist. Plus, now I have great hair for the weekend.
Roaen: On Friday, as I finished up a work meeting outside of town, I decided to take an extra 10 to 15 minutes for myself to sit down and eat lunch. Instead of rushing to my over 2-hour drive back, I walked to a nearby deli and ate lunch by myself. Alone with my thoughts, I found some peace, despite the hectic schedule that awaited me at home. I enjoyed lunch in silence, caught my breath, and felt calmer on my drive home.
