Crochet a Mother’s Day card

A card and a handmade gift in one. Celebrate your mom by creating your own crocheted floral-themed card just for her.

Directions: Easy

Size: 23 x 16 cm (9 x 6 inches)

Abbreviations:

• ch: chain
• sl st: slip stitch
• sc: single crochet
• hdc: half double crochet
• dc: double crochet
• tr: treble (triple) crochet
• st(s): stitch(es)

Materials:

• 100 percent 4-ply cotton yarn in powder pink, medium pink, shocking pink (ca. 30 grams) for flowers, opal green for leaves (I used Drops Paris for the sample)
• 100 percent 2-ply cotton yarn in yellow for card edging (I used Catania for the sample)
• Size 2.5 (1/B) and 3.5 mm (E) crochet hook
• Cardboard for card (I used standard A4 size folded in half)
• Hole puncher, ruler, pencil
• Glue
• Stitch marker (optional)

Directions:

The Pattern

Flowers (make 4 in various shades of pink)

1. With 4-ply yarn and 3.5 mm (E) hook
2. Ch 6 and sl st to 1st ch to form a ring
3. Round 1: *dc, 2 tr, ch 1, 2 tr, sl st* in ring, repeat from * to * 3 more times.
4. Fasten off.

Leaves (make 4)

1. With green 4-ply yarn and 3.5 mm (E) hook
2. Ch 9
3. Round 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next st, dc in next st, tr in next two sts, dc in next st, hdc in next st, sc in next st. (8 sts)
4. Fasten off.

Assembly:

Arrange your flowers using pictures as guide. Using yarn needle, sew them together. Attach the leaves in the same manner. Put aside.

Card:

Fold your card in half and use a hole puncher or a needle to punch holes around the edge of the card. Start by punching holes in the corners and then try to evenly space them apart.

Using yellow 2-ply yarn and a 2.5 (1/B) crochet hook:

1. Start with a sl st in one hole, than make 3 or 4 ch sts (depends on the space between the two holes), then 1 sl st in the next hole. Repeat this until you reach the hole in the corner.
2. Make 1 sl st, 4 ch sts, and 1 sl st in the same corner hole.
3. Crochet this way around the edge of the card.

Scallop edging:

To make the scallop crochet edging under the chain loop:

1. 1 sl st, 1 sc, 2 dc, 1 sc, 1 sl st
2. Work your way around all loops.
3. Fasten off.

Assembly:

Using glue, glue your flowers in the center of the card. Alternatively you can stitch them on.
