The International Space Station’s latest project is out of this world… literally. ISS’ new High Definition Earth Viewing experiment allows us regular people to view a live stream of Earth from outer space. You absolutely must, must check it out.

The International Space Station pulled out all stops with its new HDEV experiment, and the result is pretty incredible.
The High Definition Earth Viewing (HDEV) experiment revolves around four high-definition cameras attached to the exterior of the space station. These cameras provide information to engineers and astronauts regarding sun radiation and conditions in space, helping NASA make decisions on future equipment use. In the meantime, us non-astronauts get to benefit from the live feed these cameras send back to Earth.
It doesn’t get much cooler than that.
To add to the awesome, NASA worked with the High Schools United with NASA to Create Hardware (HUNCH) program on the experiment, allowing teenagers to contribute design and input to this feat of science.
If you’re not already sold on the project, all you need to do is check out the live feed yourself. It’s breathtaking. It’s awe-inspiring. It’s science in your own home.
