Elle Fanning: Wise and stylish beyond her 16 years

Elle Fanning isn’t like most 16-year-olds. With a film resume and fashion portfolio larger than even most of her Hollywood peers, she’s certainly caught our attention as a style trendsetter. As Elle hits the big screen for one of her greatest roles yet this week, Princess Aurora in Disney’s Maleficent, we’re recapping some of her most major fashion moments.

Not many 12-year-olds can say they’ve been to the Venice Film Festival, but Elle wasn’t your average tween. To celebrate the premiere of Somewhere in 2010Elle sparkled in a two-tone strapless fit and flare dress and metallic Mary Jane pumps.

“I like to dress my age. You don’t want to look too old when you’re not, or too young when you’re not.”  — Elle talking to Marie Claire about dressing her age.

You know you’ve made it when you’re invited to Elle‘s Annual Women in Hollywood celebration. For the 2012 event, Elle turned heads in a sleek, sexy and sophisticated LBD and matching floral print pumps and bag.

“I take a lot of risks. I like to stand out and look unique. I break out a lot of my vintage dresses. I’m not afraid!” — When it comes to her style, Elle tells Seventeen magazine that she’s always fearless.

Whether she’s in flirty dresses or tailored pants, Elle always finds the perfect fit for her tall frame.

“Even before there’s a premiere, I’ll know my favorite dress from one of the collections.” — Elle shared with Teen Vogue.

Black and white is always a classic combo, but Elle knows how to infuse a bit of sass into an otherwise sophisticated look — add a fun hair accessory.

“I don’t normally wear much makeup… Everyone does what they’re comfortable with, but you don’t need all this foundation and stuff. Then you can look forward to something when you’re older!” — Elle talking to Marie Claire magazine.

Most 16-year-olds rock their leggings and flats at the airport; Elle prefers a polished approach to her travel fashion. In loose-fitting yet luxe pieces like these, it’s no wonder she causes a paparazzi frenzy upon her arrival.

Elle stepped up her already major fashion game for a Maleficent photo call in stylish Paris, posing for the camera in a flirty green fit and flare dress and Sleeping Beauty pumps.

“There hasn’t been anything I’ve worn that I’m like, ‘Ugh. I hate that trend!’ I don’t really follow trends that much, but I always try to stay in the know. If there’s a trend, I try to make it my own.” — Elle shares her opinion on fashion trends to Seventeen.

Is it just us or does Elle look like a model fresh off the runway? For a Maleficent promo event, the young actress dazzled in an embroidered strapless gown that she wisely paired with a flower crown for an ethereal look.
