Today, I, along with several of my canine friends, became impressed by the heroic efforts of our feline counterpart, Tara — the cat who saved an innocent little boy from an animal unworthy of the name “dog.” I congratulate you, Tara. Your heroism is not to be undermined; however, my tail would never wag again if I held my tongue and didn’t at least remind my human friends that dogs have been saving humans from cats since the beginning of time. Perhaps, even longer.
Called “Ninja Cat” by the Washington Post and “Hero Cat” by other publications across the web, Tara has become the latest internet sensation. And with good reason. If you happened to miss it, just take a few moments to watch this super feline in action.
Although that’s mighty impressive, I find myself wondering: Has this single act of feline heroism truly triumphed the heroic acts of my fellow dogs? Surely, humans can’t have forgotten our noble efforts so easily, right?
Have you forgotten Stanley, the golden retriever who defended his humans from the threatening claws of a mountain lion? And what about Angel, whose story is much the same?
And then, there’s Morocho, a Dogo Argentino who rescued two girls from a puma that was lurking in a tree.
Dogs have been saving humans from an endless range of perils ever since we became “man’s best friend.” We take that label seriously. Like the Secret Service, we would take a bullet for our humans, should the need arise. Don’t believe me? Let me prove it.

Now, I’m not saying that cats don’t love their humans, too. All I’m saying is that a dog’s loyalty should never be questioned because of one dog’s poor choice and one cat’s act of bravery. The next time you need us, we’ll still be there, just like we always have been; because, after all, we are “man’s best friend” for a reason.
