If you’re planning a road trip this summer, you may want to make a small detour to one of these five towns. With hilarious claims to fame, these towns are sure to make an awesome photo op and an even sillier travel story to talk about.
1. Prescott, Wisconsin

Previously, the title was held by the small town of Campbellsport, Wisconsin, but on September 2, 2013, a local grocery store in Prescott, Wisconsin, successfully grilled a 152-foot-9-inch brat. Bun included, the 60-pound sausage took six dozen people to create it and lift it onto the grill. Once cooked through, the brat was cut into pieces and sold to raise funds for a new grocery store.
2. Scottsboro, Alabama
The Lost Luggage Capital of the World

Ever wonder where unclaimed luggage goes? Look no further than Scottsboro, Alabama, the home of lost sweaters, shoes and other personal items. At the Unclaimed Baggage Center, you can gain from someone else’s loss by purchasing various items at a low-cost price. After starting the business in the back of a truck, the company now receives the luggage after the airline has exhausted a three-month search to find its original owner.
3. High Point, North Carolina
Home of the World’s Largest Chest of Drawers/Home Furniture Capital of the World

High Point, North Carolina, became known as the Home Furniture Capital due to its number of furniture production factories. Now it’s a host to the High Point Market, which allows furniture professionals to get a glimpse at the world’s finest furniture selection, auctioned off at the end of the showcase. Known as the place to buy the highest quality furniture, High Point is also the home to the World’s Largest Chest of Drawers. It was built in 1926 to symbolize the city’s new status as the Furniture Capital of the World and was rebuilt in 1996 as the 38-foot version that stands today.
4. Pearsonville, California
Hubcap Capital of the World

Thanks to Pearsonville, California’s Lucy Pearson, who owned a collection of over 80,000 hubcaps, this town is officially nicknamed the Hubcap Capital of the World. However, while there is still a junkyard with plenty of hubcaps to choose from, there doesn’t seem to be a soul around to claim Pearsonville as home, including the infamous Lucy. Recent visitors state that the ghost town is currently bare and also kind of creepy.
5. Hastings, Nebraska
The Birthplace of Kool-Aid

Thanks to a home chemist with a will, Hastings, Nebraska, claims their fame as the birthplace of Kool-Aid. Edwin E. Perkins, a Hastings resident and entrepreneur, made and sold in glass tubes a sweet fruit juice geared toward children, but he kept running into the problem of broken glass. Perkins figured that if he could remove the liquid, he could increase his profits and lower his overall costs. That’s when Kool-Aid was born. Perkins moved to Chicago after his discovery to build his business and eventually sold it to General Foods. However, Hastings still holds much pride in being the birthplace of Kool-Aid and has a permanent exhibit of the sugary drink’s history in their local museum.
