7 Transitional pieces to take you from winter to spring

Now that we are approaching warmer weather, it’s time to reorganize your essential choices.

t As we prepare to move into a new season, our wardrobe starts to shift from polar vortex readiness to a spring fever love affair. Depending on where you are, you probably had to wear a coat and hat more than enough this winter season, but now that we are approaching warmer weather it is time to reorganize your essential choices. I always like to keep some of my favorite pieces around all year long, and usually gain sorrow when I have to put away my favorites like my faux fur vest or long wool coats. Of course, there are those exceptions where you can get away with a leather skirt in the summer or a light felt fedora in the spring, but I think we all want to have a nice good list of items that serve their purpose in the dreadful cold days but could easily work well once the sun is out to play for a while. Here are seven items that are great to take your wardrobe from winter to spring.

The denim jacket

t This piece can be worn as a shirt, a jacket or layered under a camel winter coat. It’s good enough for that pretty floral dress in the spring or those wool wide-leg trousers in the winter.

The midi skirt

t What I admire about the calf-length skirt is the versatility it offers. If you choose to wear knee-high boots in the winter time with a sweater or a crop-top in the spring, it is definitely one of those pieces that can stay with you from season to season.

Printed dress

t A lovely base for a winter or spring outfit, a printed dress can spruce up a gloomy day or shine bright on a sunny afternoon.

Tan leather tote

t A shopper or tote in a brown hue is ideal for busy, layered outfits as well as fuss-free ones. It’s a color that is warm enough for hot weather and even better in the colder months when you may lack a little pop.

Cutout shoes or booties

t A popular trend right now sweeping the street style and blogger scene is the cutout shoe. It’s just enough material for coverage against frigid temperatures, yet also spring-appropriate.

Buy it: Jeffrey Campbell Debora Cutout Bootie (nastygal.com, $188)

t

Loose knit sweater

t Perfect for a breezy summer night or a chilly evening in winter, a sweater that gives you room to breathe but is stylish enough for chic outfits is a good transitional piece.

Moto jacket

t The ultimate go-to jacket for girly or edgy outfits is the motorcycle jacket. Any color would work for both seasons, and it’s a staple piece that can be worn tied around the waist or over the shoulders. The options are endless, and it is definitely a piece you want to take into spring.
