‘Tis the season… of fleas and ticks

t I don’t know about you, but as much as I love the warmer weather and beautiful blooms, I also know that’s an omen for what’s coming for my dog, Jessie… fleas.

t I have to admit, when Jessie first started getting fleas I just thought any topical chemical flea medicine would do. That is, until I did my research and found that the majority of topical treatments like spot drops can actually pose extremely harmful and life-threatening effects on our pets and our families.

t Here’s what I’m talking about…

t According to the EPA, at least 1,600 pet deaths related to spot treatments were reported over the last five years. Exposure to these types of pesticides (including fipronil and permethrin) can not only cause kidney and brain damage in our dogs, but if kids are exposed, pesticides have been known to cause both neurological and developmental disabilities.

t Um, yikes.

t So what’s the alternative? I mean, as much as I want to be safe for my dog and family, it’s not fair to Jessie (or to me) to let the fleas win.
