The best fall trends for curvy women

Not all trends suit every body type. Finding the right pieces for your body can be difficult, especially if you’re plus size. SheKnows style expert Marcy Guevara shares some tips to make it easier.

t Figuring out which trends to embrace and which to run from, as a plus-size woman, can be a challenge. Not only are the options limited, but also one wants to feel just like their friends and wear the latest designs.

t I have a few tips for breaking through the mass amounts of fashion frenzy and finding pieces that work for you. Below I break down my five favorite trends from the runways and how you can incorporate them into your wardrobe.

Prints

t

t I am wild over prints this season and absolutely think you should be embracing them! What’s not to love about a fab snakeskin print top or leopard sweater dress? Look for subtle medium to small size prints for the most flattering fit.

t Leopard Sweater Dress (Lane Bryant, $79.95)
t Single Salon Z Printed-Front Sweater (Saks Fifth Avenue, $150)

Slouchy Pants

t

t This trend is tough to pull off but oh so comfortable and chic looking! One major note here is to be cautious with clothing companies that have manufactured clothes in your size but haven’t perfected them. Just because it fits doesn’t mean it should be worn. This soft pant from Lane Bryant is PERFECT for accomplishing this Parisian look without looking like you rolled out of bed.

t Jacquard soft pant (Lane Bryant, $60)
t Exclusive Peg Trouser In Fading Spot (ASOS, $30)

Boots

t

t Many women have a difficult time finding the right pair of boots during the Fall. Finding boots that fit your calves and even go past the knee can be easier than you think! Zappos and Duo Boots have great options for wide widths and Torrid also has curvy girl offerings. Though some department stores may have them to try on, if you go the online route make sure that you order more than one pair and return whichever you don’t like! There is nothing more frustrating than getting an exciting visit from the UPS man only to discover your purchases don’t fit.

t Studded Over-The-Knee Boots (Torrid, $75)
t Bach platform knee-high boots (Duo Boots, $312

Fur

t

t Fur or anything with extreme texture can add unnecessary bulk to a full figure. I love adding touches of this luxe medium and with all the faux fur out there this is easy this season. Rather than go with an oversized coat that can weigh you down, opt for something subtle like a stole, hat or vest. Less is more when it comes to textured fabrics and playing up your shape.

t CEJON Faux Fur Looped Scarf (Lord and Taylor, $38)
t Calvin Klein Plus Size Sweater, Sleeveless Faux-Fur Vest (Macy’s, $27)

Mid-century

t

t This feminine trend was a rage on the runways this season and is one of my favorites. Full skirts and whittled middles are what it’s about here. I love how this trend plays up a woman’s shape and features lovely details like belts, petty coats and flirty silhouettes.

t Eliza J Double Knit Crepe Fit & Flare Dress (Nordstrom, $148)
t DKNY Belted Plaid Tweed Coat (Nordstrom, $218)

t I hope you’ve gotten some fashion inspiration and are ready to build your fashion resume. I’d love to see your best outfit pics online, so hashtag #sheknowsplustrends so we can see how you style!
