We’ve all been heartbroken over the terrible news of the Malaysia Airlines flight that went down in Ukraine on Thursday. But as families and friends mourn the loss of all 295 on board, an insensitive prankster decided to play a joke on MSNBC.
While many are faulting MSNBC for shoddy reporting, we wonder why more aren’t pointing the finger back at the man who somehow thought this prank was funny. Posing as Staff Sgt. Michael Boyd from the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine, the caller claimed to be an eyewitness to the crash. When asked to share his account, Boyd said, “I saw a projectile flying through the sky, and it would appear that the plane was shot down by a blast of wind from Howard Stern’s a**.”
Not catching the comment, the reporter continued to ask Boyd questions, to which he replied, “You’re a dumb-a**, aren’t you?”
This will likely be a moment the MSNBC anchor will never forgive herself for, but shame on the man who baited a major news organization with an “exclusive eyewitness account” simply to get some attention. Doesn’t he realize that people lost their lives? Has he not been paying attention to all of the catastrophic events taking place in Ukraine and Russia right now? Does he really think a disaster that happened where two countries are practically at war is something that should be used to gain a few laughs? This man is the true embarrassment, and I only hope his insensitivity will not be shared by others.
