Wai Kuen Kwok was killed this weekend at a Bronx subway station in what appears to be an unprovoked attack.
The 61-year-old was pushed by a stranger onto the tracks, struck by an oncoming train and killed. His wife was standing beside him and watched the entire thing.
The incident is being investigated as a homicide by New York police. They are looking for a man identified on surveillance video wearing a dark jacket and smoking a cigarette. They say after killing the man, the suspect just strolled off. Officials add that there’s no reason to believe the two men knew each other.

This is the latest in an ongoing series of murders in which the victim is pushed — often by a homeless person — onto the tracks and is killed. One man in April 2013 was struck and killed by a subway train while trying to claw his way up onto the platform to safety. He was pushed by a homeless person with whom he had been arguing moments before.
In the meantime, poor Mrs. Kwok will likely live with the image of her husband’s final, awful moments forever. Let’s hope they catch this guy and come up with a way to protect vulnerable subway riders from this type of random, horrific violence.
