Make this adorable pumpkin centerpiece using Mason jar lids

With Thanksgiving right around the corner, now is the time to nail down plans with your family, think about your menu and plan your fall tablescape. Instead of buying brand new decorations this year, why not make your own?

t I love Mason jars and have used them for many DIY projects on QVC’s You’re Home with Jill®. But because I’ve made lots of things with just the jar, I’ve accumulated quite a few lidded rings. If you, too, use Mason jars as vases, place settings and decorative accents, here’s how you can repurpose those rings and enhance your Thanksgiving decor.

Mason jar lid pumpkin centerpiece

t Supplies:

• 14 small or 20 regular mouth canning lids

t

• 20-24 inches jute/twine

t

• Orange spray paint

t

• 3 – 4 cinnamon sticks

t Directions:

1. Spray paint the lids on each side until you reach the coverage you want.

t

2. When dry, string the lids onto the jute, making sure they all face the same direction.

t

3. Tie the 2 ends of jute together in a double knot and cut the excess.

t

4. Place the cinnamon sticks in the middle and adjust the spacing of the rings.

Some stores sell Mason jars in all different sizes so you could create your own little pumpkin patch! Or, try using different spray paint to make multicolor pumpkins in orange, yellow or white. The more you make, the more cinnamon you’ll need; what a terrific aroma they’ll have!

Candle basket centerpiece

t This fall centerpiece is so practical because everyone has a tall candle. I like flameless candles because they’re family-friendly and offer zero mess or worry, but any tall candle will do. Put this centerpiece in the middle of your dinner table or somewhere nearby where it can be admired.

t Supplies:

• Wire basket

t

• Varied fall leaves, berries and gourds

t

• Wire cutters

t

• Hot glue gun

tDirections:

1. Place a 6-inch-tall (or larger) candle in the center of the wire basket.

2. Cut sprigs of leaves into various sizes and tuck them around the candle.

t

3. Hot glue gourds and berry bunches all around for texture and color.

t This same concept, and candle, can work for every season; just find a decorative basket and seasonal flowers and accents. In the winter, fill a glass hurricane with white branches and silvery pinecones. In the spring, look for a wicker basket and add colorful flowers.

For summertime, pour sand into a glass-lined wooden lantern and add some seashells.
