16 Easy Halloween costumes for your baby

Lions and tigers and bears, oh my! This Halloween have fun dressing your lil’ cutie up in a homemade costume. We have 16 simple animal costume ideas that will have your kiddo looking as cute as can be dressed as their favourite animal. These fun animal costumes are perfect for infants, toddlers and even older children.

16 make-at-home costumes

Although you will probably have to hit a hobby store to find most of the items for these adorable animal costumes, some of the items can be found at home — like, scissors, a hot glue gun, markers, paint and double-sided tape. So not only will the costume be cute, it will also be cheaper than a store bought one — and much more creative!

BUNNY

  • Pink, brown or white hooded sweatsuit
  • Powder puff or large pompom or a handful of cotton balls
  • Double-sided tape [or fabric glue]
  • White pantyhose
  • Wire coat hanger
  • Plastic headband
  • Two pairs of socks to match suit colour
  • Plastic or real carrot

Attach the powder puff, pompom or cotton balls to the back of the sweat pants using double-sided tape [or fabric glue] Next, bend the coat hanger into the shape of two long bunny ears and gently stretch the panty hose over the ears–attach to plastic the headband. Remember to carry a carrot!

Tip: If you don’ plan on reusing the sweatsuit, then you can use fabric glue instead of double-sided tape — it will hold better.

SKUNK

  • Black hooded sweatsuit
  • White faux fur
  • Fabric glue
  • Black felt
  • Pairs black socks
  • Double-sided tape
  • Black fabric

Cut the faux fur into a long strip and adhere to the hood of the jacket and down the back. Adhere with strips of double-sided tape [r fabric glue] Then, cut a small oval shape for the tummy area and adhere with fabric glue. For the ears, cut two triangles from the black felt. Either hand sew or glue onto the hood. Lastly, have your child wear one pair of black socks on their hands and one pair on their feet.

Tip: Hand sewing the ears will make them easy to remove so you can reuse the sweatsuit after Halloween!

PUPPY

  • Brown, tan, grey, black or white hooded sweatsuit
  • Fabric circles in a contrasting colour [.e. white suit, brown spots, etc.]
  • Two sheets of felt in colour matching sweatsuit
  • Double-sided tape
  • Pairs of socks in colour matching sweatsuit
  • Dog collar or belt cut to size [ptional]

Using small pieces of double-sided tape, attach fabric circles to the sweatsuit in various different areas. Cut two floppy ears from one sheet of the felt and either hand sew or hot glue onto the hood. Cut a long tail from the second sheet of felt and attach to the back of the pants with a safety pin. Have child wear one pair of socks on her hands and one pair on her feet. Top off with a dog collar or a belt cut short to serve to as a collar.
