5 Fun winter activities

Baby, it’s cold outside! But don’t let seasonal shivers stop you from getting some fresh air and sunshine. As tempting as it may be to stay inside until the snow melts, resist the urge to hibernate. We’ve put together some fun cold weather activities that will have you singing the snow’s praises in no time. Here are five winter activities to try with the whole family.

Strap on some skates

Even if you haven’t skated since childhood, buy or rent a pair of skates, find a local rink and get moving. Skating can be great exercise and lots of affordable fun for the whole family. You can search online for rinks in your area and by December most are open and ready for use. Bring a thermos of hot chocolate for a toasty post-skating treat.

Try tobogganing

As soon as there’s enough snow to slide down a hill on a sled, gather some friends and family, find some sleds and hit the hills. As with any speed-focused activity, be sure to wear a helmet. Sure, fluffy snow might break your fall, but don’t rely on the white stuff to keep you safe. Once you’re protected and have a clear route down [i.e. no trees or debris] in your way, hold on tight and have fun!

Search “Toboggan hills” plus your province or city to get a list of safe, groomed hills to try out.
