Tips to stick to your new year’s resolution

At the end of the year you make a resolution to improve yourself, whether it is to lose weight, quit smoking, or eat more healthy. By the second week of January, most of us forget about these resolutions and go back to our old ways. Well, no more! Read on for tips to stick to your new year’s resolution in 2012!

Don’t be hard on yourself

If you slip up, don’t get angry with yourself and give up completely. Accept the mistake and try again. Don’t let your resolution fall by the wayside because of one slip-up. And don’t get angry with yourself, as negative energy will just leave negative results!

Don’t resolve to do something impossible

A part of a successful New Year’s resolution, is coming up with something realistic, and taking steps that will see your resolution through. For example, if you want to lose weight, don’t tell yourself that you want to lose 25 pounds by the end of January.

Make a realistic goal and break it up into smaller steps. Maybe instead of resolving to lose 25 pounds in a month, you could set out to lose a couple of pounds each month. By breaking the task up into smaller, more realistic goals, the resolution won’t seem too daunting.

Enlist the help of a friend

If you and your friend both have come up with New Year’s resolutions, why not join forces to support each other? By having a support system, you can discuss your progress weekly and encourage each other to see the resolution through.

For example, if you and your friend want to become more fit, you may want to join a gym together and find time to exercise together. The companionship will make it extra enjoyable to stick to a resolution.

Keep a record of your progress

By keeping track of how your resolution is coming along, be it in a journal, blog, or table, the visual recap will encourage you to keep going, as it is evidence that you are sticking to your resolution and seeing improvements.
