There’s an art to rocking the red carpet, and the right hair and makeup are just two of the elements that play a role. Here, our picks of who looked gorgeous at the Golden Globe Awards.
Perhaps even more entertaining than the actual awards themselves? Examining and analyzing our favourite beauty moments from the red carpet season. Some celebs always get it right (Charlize Theron, for example), while others falter (Reese Witherspoon’s high ponytail from last year and her beachy ‘do this year simply are not our cup of tea). Here, our favourite hair and makeup looks from the recent Golden Globe Awards.
Charlize Theron
Let’s face it — it’d be very difficult for her to look unpretty. With her dramatic pale pink dress, Charlize got her hair and makeup just right: with a pale lip and a very subtly shimmery eye, and hair that was played up a bit more, with soft, somewhat Grecian side curls pulled back loosely with a glitzy headband. The result is elegant and pretty.
Rooney Mara
Mara’s hairstyle might seem too casual to some people, but with her fantastic jawline and profile, we adore the strong side part and how it’s pulled back and slicked into a low ponytail. With her hair so simple, her features are in the spotlight; and with a pale, neutral lip and upper lashes played up, her impossibly chic Nina Ricci dress gets the attention.
Dianna Agron
This Glee star is so naturally pretty — and yet she looked particularly striking at the Golden Globes. A bold red lip can sometimes look too much on a blonde, but this soft red lipstick strikes the perfect note on Agron. And her upswept hair could’ve easily come across as too mature, but slightly loose and textured, it’s completely age-appropriate. Our only disappointment? Agron’s red dress — while we like the idea of the laser cutouts in theory, in reality it came across a bit too figure-skater costume for our liking.
Mila Kunis
This Black Swan stunner has perhaps the most gorgeous bedroom eyes in the biz right now, so we absolutely adore that the emphasis is on her eyes with the heavier winged eyeliner and long upper lashes. Her defined brows are beautiful too. If she’d worn a brighter lip, heavier blush or fussier hair, she may have looked overdone. As is, Kunis is pure perfection.
Emma Stone
Another actress blessed with fantastic eyes (see Mila Kunis above), Stone is one of the few with a heavier eye makeup look that night who made it work. Her smokey, silvery eyes play off the drama of the deep burgundy gown she wore (which looked gorgeous against her milky skin).
