Best scents for sleep

Do you spend your nights tossing and turning? Forget counting sheep! Use these scents to help you get some good shut-eye!

Lavender

Lavender is one of the most popular sleep scents. Not only does it help you fall asleep, but it helps you stay that way. A sniff or two of the scent helps relax your mind, an effect that helps you get a full night of meaningful sleep. Add lavender-scented oils to your bath before bed to wash away the worries of the day and get ready for a good night’s sleep. Not a fan of baths? Spray a lavender scent on your pillows or use lavender-scented lotion before you hit the sack.

Chamomile

Chamomile is a popular flavour of nighttime tea, but it’s not just for drinking. This tiny and delicate flower, resembling a daisy, produces a scent that soothes the mind and body, sending you off to a night of sleep, rest and relaxation. If you’re a fan of the tea, breathe it in as you drink it for the full benefit of the scent. If tea isn’t your thing, try dabbing chamomile oils on your wrists or burning them in a diffuser.

Vanilla

Vanilla works wonders in the kitchen, but it can help you get some sleep as well. The scent of vanilla brings on a sense of comfort and coziness (maybe because it floods you with memories of Momma’s kitchen?) that lets you relax enough to snooze. Use a vanilla lotion before you go to bed, or use a vanilla mist on your bed linens.

Sandalwood

Many times, the reasons you can’t sleep have more to do with your mind than your body. The scent of sandalwood works wonders at easing your emotions, helping you rest without waking up every hour to worry more. The soft, woody smell helps keep your mind turned off so you can get the sleep you need.

Jasmine

There aren’t many scents that can be used for both waking and sleeping, but jasmine is one of them. Jasmine is kind of an all-star scent. It works as a stress reducer, helping you sleep at night and stay more focused and alert through the day. Infuse your room with the scent of jasmine while you sleep and you’ll find that you sleep deeper, so you’ll wake up feeling rested and refreshed.
