Best in beauty at the Screen Actors Guild Awards 2012

We often look forward to the red carpet coverage more than the actual awards show — after all, that’s where we can get a good long look at the hair and makeup and outfits. Here are our picks for spotlight-stealers this weekend at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.

Some stars hit the nail on the head when it comes to their red-carpet choices, while others falter and leave us wondering “What were they thinking?” This year at the Screen Actors Guild Awards, there were way more hits than misses, making it tough to choose our top five. But here’s who we feel rocked the red carpet the best.

Rose Byrne

Dressed in a killer beaded Elie Saab one-piece pantsuit (stunning on Byrne’s lithe frame), Byrne was a breath of fresh air. Perfectly appropriate for the more casual, carefree vibe of the SAGs, she wore makeup from Joe Fresh that was neutral and, yes, fresh — rosy cheeks and a taupe-y lipstick. In fact, it’s a look one can wear every day. Paired with her new sleek and shiny bob, her look stood out in the crowd.

Emma Stone

This starlet certainly knows how to turn up the chic factor; it’s like she was born to be on the red carpet. Dressed in a black Alexander McQueen dress with her gorgeous red hair swept in an updo, Stone was more formal than other stars — but her youth and simple makeup (a dark pink lip in nice contrast to her red hair) kept it charming. Her side-swept bangs also put an emphasis on her beautifully lined eyes.

Sofia Vergara

This Modern Family babe knows how to flaunt her curvy assets, with the snug fuschia gown (stunning against her olive skin) revealing her enviable derriere and the sculptural bodice embracing her equally enviable bosom. Vergara’s makeup at the SAG Awards was inspired by her gorgeous dress, with a focus on soft pink and purple tones for a pretty and more demure look than we’re used to seeing on this bombshell.

Diane Lane

Lane is so naturally pretty — but at the SAG Awards she pushed it up a notch, looking positively stunning on the red carpet. Her skin was glowing, especially in contrast to her teal David Meister gown. And with her hair in a slightly wavy, soft ponytail, the look showed off her shoulders and added playful charm to her appearance. Her look was completed with nicely arched brows and a deep rose lipstick.

Michelle Williams

Williams is one celebrity we don’t often feel gets it right on the red carpet, but at the SAGs, she was working it. In a vivid red Valentino dress, her pale skin looked luminescent. With her short do in a reddish hue and neutral makeup, Williams was perfectly polished and ladylike.
