Fun ways to tie your scarf

by

A long rectangular or oblong scarf is a great addition to any outfit. When extra warmth is required, a quick wrap of a scarf around your neck can help stave off a chill; but this highly versatile accessory is much more than that.

A scarf offers a simple, fun way to add a punch of colour and panache to your wardrobe. It’s as easily paired with dark jeans and a white button-down shirt as a black peacoat and newsboy cap. A scarf can stand up to all your personal style choices. And with so many different ways to wear a long scarf, you can experiment to find the ones that suit you the best. Here are five of the most popular ways to wear your long rectangle or winter scarf.

The Weave

  1. Lay scarf around your neck from back to front.
  2. Wrap scarf around neck once to form a neck loop and lay the ends evenly down the front.
  3. From inside the top of the neck loop partially pull one side of the scarf up through to form a smaller loop, being careful not to bring the entire end through.
  4. Take the other scarf end and slide it through the small loop from the top. Pull it all the way through and adjust both ends to straighten.

The Hidden Knot

  1. Lay the scarf around your neck from front to back.
  2. Cross the ends over and bring them around to the front. Keep the neck loop loose enough to be comfortable.
  3. Cross one end over the other and tie a knot.
  4. Adjust the knot so the front end is hanging longer and covers the end behind it.
  5. Hide the knot by sliding the original neck loop over it.

The Turtleneck

  1. Lay the scarf around your neck from back to front.
  2. Wrap the scarf around your neck, criss-crossing the ends each time, until the scarf is fully wrapped around your neck and resembles a turtleneck.
  3. Tuck the loose ends underneath for a sleek look.

The European Knot

  1. Fold the scarf lengthwise to create a narrower rectangle. Fold it as many times as necessary to get the desired width.
  2. Fold the narrowed scarf end to end to form a large loop and lay around neck from back to front, bringing the scarf ends and the loop end to the front.
  3. Pull the ends through the loop from the top to the bottom, and pull to tighten.

The Loop

  1. Lay the scarf around neck from back to front, keeping one end much longer than the other.
  2. Wrap the long end around your neck to create a neck loop, and bring the end back to the front.
  3. Take one end and, from the top, tuck it through the neck loop at the front. Repeat with other end.
  4. Adjust so both of the scarf ends are lying centred down the front.
