5 Makeup tips to fake looking more awake

You’ve been burning the midnight oil and it’s starting to show on your face. The good news is that you can easily mask these signs of fatigue with a few simple steps using a few cosmetics.

Whether it’s long night at the office, cramming for an exam or just many nights out partying, your face is showing the signs of your lack of sleep and energy. But it doesn’t have to. With a little know-how and a few minutes, you can do some magic with your arsenal of makeup that will help you look bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, with no one the wiser.

Curl your eyelashes

Even though the last thing you may want to do when you’re tired is fuss around with an eyelash curler, you should. Crimp your lashes for about five seconds with a curler and the flirty curl will instantly help your eyes seem less droopy.

Add luminescence

Highlighting is your friend when you want to pull off looking more awake — when you’re tired, your skin can start to look ashen, grey and dull. Use a luminscent foundation to add a subtle glow all over your face, or try an irridescent product at the cheekbones, brow bone, inner corners of your eyes and cupid’s bow for an instant refresh to your skin and complexion.

Whiten and brighten the eyes

To make your eyes look wider and more alert, try a white eyeliner on your lower waterline; this will subtly expand the whites of your eyes. Another pretty and flattering look that will help give a boost to your eyes when you’re feeling less than perky? A sheer wash of lavender eyeshadow over your lid.

Apply a cheery lip

Using no colour or very little colour on the lips can make many women look washed out and tired. You probably just want to dab on a sheer lip balm because that’s all you have energy for, but swiping on a lip gloss (the shiny effect can do wonders in making you look more perky) or a lipstick in a cheery shade (think pink or apricot) will help brighten up your whole face.

Conceal those under-eye circles

Last, but not least, you need to camouflage those raccoon eyes you’re sporting if you want to hide your exhaustion. Using your fingertip, gently tap a creamy, emollient under-eye concealer on the delicate area and blend.
