Throwing a grown-up slumber party with your girls

You and your girls have gone to plenty of cocktail parties and visited your share of bars and restaurants. But every now and then, it’s nice to return to that old-fashioned favourite: the slumber party. Rekindle your childhood, and throw a sleepover extravaganza you’ll never forget with these simple steps.

Step 1: Find the right space

Slumber parties are all about hanging out as a group. So naturally you need a space that’s big enough. Ideally there should be enough room for everyone to sit around gabbing and watching movies, and then enough couch or floor space for all of you to spend the night. With enough mattresses, comforters and pillows, any large floor can easily become a massive sleeping area. Aim for one that is carpeted for a little bit of extra cushion, and then dress it up with as many cozy items as you can spare. You can even ask your guests to bring along some blankets and pillows so you’re sure to have enough sleeping gear.

Step 2: Find the right activities

Slumber parties should be fun for everyone, so pick activities you know all your girls will love. If they’re board game lovers, get the night started off with some of your favourites. If they’re in the mood for a little pampering, break out the face masks and nail polish. When in doubt, watching chick flicks is always a great way to spend the night. Whether it’s ’90s rom-coms you haven’t seen in forever or the latest Matthew McConaughey hit, watching attractive men in hilarious situtations is guaranteed to make for a good time. And don’t be afraid to get a little silly with games like Truth or Dare or Would You Rather. They inspired giggles then and they certainly can now!

Step 3: Find the right food

A slumber party isn’t a slumber party without copious amounts of junk food. Rather than having your girls come with wine as they usually would, ask them to bring a couple of their favourite comfort foods. Suggest they come with one salty and one sweet so you have a little variety. This way, when you sit down for movies and fun times, you are loaded up with all your favourite goodies. You can also start the night off right with a good old order-in dinner. A couple of pizzas and a batch of bread sticks are sure to be a hit. And when dessert time comes around, go for slumber party classics such as ice cream sundaes or chocolate chip cookie dough. You might be perfectly happy with your single square of dark chocolate every other night of the week, but this is an evening of extravagance, so have fun with it!

Step 4: Dress accordingly

No need to bring out the heels and fancy jewellery. This is one night with the girls where you can sport all your most comfortable attire. Flannel pyjamas and wooly slippers are perfectly suitable for this style of evening. This is your one night of breaking away from adulthood, so make the most of it!
