Ways to have fun with eye makeup this spring

Spring 2012 is full of great styles and beauty trends. And nothing says more about your look than your eyes. Look your best this season with these great eye makeup trends.

Colour extravaganza

Spring is all about colour, and the fun doesn’t have to be limited to your clothing and accessories. Don’t be afraid to make use of vibrant hues and flirty colours for your eyeshadow this season. Neon oranges, bright pinks and dramatic purples bring fun, bold statements to your look.

Match it up

Back in the stylish ’40s and ’50s, ladies were all about matching. Nails, lips, clothes and accessories were all welcome to match up for a collectively glam look. Since then, many people have come to see matching your makeup to your clothing as a faux pas. But that’s about to change! This spring, experiment with eyeshadows that complement your wardrobe. This doesn’t mean everything about your look has to match. But using the same colour family for your attire and your makeup can create a wonderfully united look. For example, if you’re sporting a bold purple dress, look for eyeshadows in lavender or mauve. Looking to match things up might also help you try eye colours you might not have otherwise considered, so it’s win-win all around!

Bold retro cat eyes

Nothing says sexy like the natural yet bold look of the cat eye. Let your eyes do all the talking by sweeping a dark liquid eyeliner on your upper lid and pointing it out in a wing tip on the side. Pair it with a thickening and lengthening mascara for strong, statement eyes. And don’t be afraid to experiment with false lashes if you don’t think your natural ones do the look justice. Keep eyeshadow limited to natural, neutral tones so the bold cat eye can really shine.

Silver glow

Silver is a great way to draw attention to your eyes without looking overdone. The shade goes perfectly with virtually every skin tone and eye colour, so don’t be afraid to sweep it on your lids and even up to your brows for a night out.

Navy invasion

Pops of navy blue were seen all over the runways this season. Rather than relying on your usual black liner, welcome spring by giving your eyes that little extra bit of colour. For a bold, night-out look, rim eyes with a midnight blue liner. Or for a more subdued daytime style, apply your usual black liner and simply trace a touch of blue over the outside corners for a surprising pop in certain lights.
