Making home decorations out of seashells

Seashells are very pretty and we are often moved to collect them when we go to the beach. Depending on where you go, you can find a variety of sizes, shapes and colors. Seashells are very easy to use for decorations and can bring a very summery feel to your home. Here are some DIY home decoration ideas that will help you put some seashells to use.

Seashell Frames

Materials:

  • photo frame
  • seashells
  • glue gun

Directions:

Pick up any photo frame or a collection of different sized photo frames from the dollar store. The color doesn’t really matter as it will all be covered anyways. Gather some seashells and make sure that they will cover the photo frame well, and start gluing them around the wooden/plastic part of the frame using a glue gun. You can organize a few side by side and hang them or place them on a table. They can be a great way to frame beach or vacation pictures.

Seashell vase

Materials:

  • seashells
  • clear vase

Directions:

Just like you can fill up a clear vase with rocks, you can do the same with seashells. Just make be sure to carefully place them inside so they don’t break. Whether you use a long, clear, standing vase or a round, table vase, fill it up with differently colored mix of seashells to bring about a summery and breezy element into your home.

Seashell place mats

Materials:

  • glue gun
  • seashells
  • placemats

Directions:

This can be very nice for the spring/summer season especially for outdoor use. It can add a little touch of décor to your outdoor backyard porch, but it is still very cheap and very disposable so you won’t have to worry about it getting ruined. Simple use any placemats that you already have and glue seashells to the corners using a glue gun. Just avoid any seashells in the middle of the placemat so you can easily place food or plates on it. If you are using for solely decorative purposes, create a seashell shape using seashells in the middle of placemat and place it as a decorative item.
