Looking for a fresh, new way to wear your hair this spring? This gorgeous yet super-simple braided look is perfect for the season.
If you’re totally obsessed withThe Hunger Games and Katniss Everdeen, or if you’re simply looking for a pretty but casual, boho way to wear your hair this spring and summer, this braided style is just what you need to master, as you’ll return to it time and time again. It’s a great style to wear in hot weather, as it pulls your hair away from your face, helping to keep you looking cool, calm and collected.
The look, created by John Frieda international creative consultant Harry Josh, looks like a lot of work, but it’s actually quite simple to pull off. Here’s how:
Step 1
Part hair to one side, then flip it to the opposite side and brush the ends over your shoulder. This is to create a lift at the roots.
Step 2
With your hair flipped to the side, take a section of hair that lies on top of the hair that’s flipped to the side and make a braid.
Step 3
Brush the ends together so that they’re smooth. Secure with an elastic.
Step 4
Now take this braid along with two other sections of hair and create a braid. If you like, instead of two other sections of hair, you can create two other braids first, and then braid all three braids into one side braid. Experiment with your hair to see what looks best. Secure with an elastic.
Step 5
To give the braid a more casual, tousled, carefree look, rough up the braid with your hands by pulling the braid apart a little.
Step 6
Use a product such as Full Repair™ Touch-up Flyaway Tamer to help control any unruly flyaways. You want the braid to look tousled, not messy.
Step 7
Finish with a light spritz of hairspray that provides hold, such as Luxurious Volume Extra Hold Hairspray.
Braid tip
Braids work best on hair that’s not too clean. When your hair is just shampooed, it’s way too slippery to braid, and it won’t hold as well. So (bonus!) this is a great hairstyle for mornings you don’t have time or feel like washing your hair. If you have just shampooed and want to wear this hairstyle, work a lot of product (such as gel or mousse) into your hair to give it some texture before you start braiding.
