Once you’ve decided to grow out your bangs, you know you’re going to have to get creative when styling your hair. Here are some simple hairstyle ideas to make growing out your bangs less painful.
You loved your bangs when you had them cut, but now you’re ready for a new hairstyle that doesn’t call for a fringe. And we all know what that means: For the next few months, your hair will look awkward. But while this in-between stage can often mean less-than-stellar hairstylism, you don’t have to feel unpretty the entire time. Here are some ways to cope with your hair as you wait for your bangs to grow out.
Invest in pretty barrettes
During the first stage of growing out your bangs, your hair will become too long to have hanging into your eyes, but there’s little else you can do with your longer bangs, as they’ll still be too short to tuck behind your ear. This is when a supply of pretty, adult-appropriate barrettes (leave the “Hello, Kitty” ones for the kiddies) can help. Simply sweep your bangs to the side, and pin them into place.
Go for a Blair Waldorf look
Thank this Gossip Girl character for making headbands trendy again. A thin hair band is a clean and easy way to deal with bangs that are growing out, and it makes for a pretty, polished look.
Slick your fringe back
Remember that Robert Palmer video for “Addicted to Love”? The one with the models in little black dresses, red lipstick and slicked-back hair? Take inspiration from that look: Pull back your hair into a tight ponytail or bun, and use gel or mousse to help keep your long fringe in place. If your bangs need help to stay slicked back, tuck a bobby pin discreetly onto the top of your head, and they will stay put.
Take biotin supplements
Help your bangs to grow out more quickly by taking biotin supplements. This water-soluble B-vitamin complex has been shown to help promote hair growth.
Try a different fringe style as it grows out
Testing out a different style of bangs as they grow out is another way you can deal with your hairstyle during this stage. Who knows? You may even find you want to hold on to the new look for a while. If you had blunt, straight-across-the-face bangs, tell your stylist to cut them at an angle once they’ve grown quite a bit. Side-swept bangs will give you a whole new look and make growing out your bangs more bearable.
