Half of summer may be over, but there’s no need to be sad when that also means it’s time for the August long weekend! Forgot to make plans? No worries! We have plenty of ideas for how you can spend your extra time off.
One-of-a-kind family time
Long weekends are a great opportunity to spend some quality time with your family, especially because there are so many great activities and events to enjoy. If you’re near Toronto, consider checking out the Scotiabank Caribbean Carnival parade. If Vancouver’s nearby, visit the Honda Celebration of Light on Aug. 4, which features incredible fireworks and live music. Ultimately no matter where you are, plenty of kid-friendly events are happening this weekend. Simply visit your city’s website for a listing of all the opportunities you can take part in.
Or if you’re more in the mood for a quiet weekend, consider inviting some close family and friends over for games and a barbecue. Just be sure to pick up everything you need before stores close up for the holiday!
Chillin’ with friends
OK, maybe it’s too late for you and your friends to organize a weekend getaway to the lake. But it certainly isn’t impossible for you to enjoy the great outdoors and a couple of drinks! Restaurants and pubs are eager to draw people into their establishments over the long weekend, and that means great deals can be found all over the place. Simply type “food and drink deals” along with your city’s name into your preferred search engine to find out what superb bargains are available. If the weather is nice, you’ll want to show up with some time to spare, as you might experience a bit of a wait for the patio at most bars and restaurants. But let’s face it: What’s a little wait compared to hours spent chatting with your friends in the fresh air?
There are also some great concerts and exciting events going on over the weekend that you won’t want to miss. Drake is at the Molson Canadian Amphitheatre in Toronto, Daughtry is at the Colosseum at Caesars Windsor and there’s plenty more where those came from! Check out ticketmaster.ca to find out what’s going on in your area.
Time for self-care
Do you feel as though you’ve seen plenty of your family and friends over the summer and just need some time for you? That’s completely fair! Take a break from the stresses of your day-to-day life by driving out of the city or to a large park you haven’t visited yet. It’s a great opportunity for you to relax in a new and unique setting. Or if you’d rather stay in, celebrate the season with a refreshing summer cocktail, and maybe treat yourself to a DIY mani/pedi!
