Tribal-inspired hair and makeup at Anastasia Lomonova

Get inspired to try something exotic and bold by taking a cue from the hair and makeup of the Anastasia Lomonova runway at Montreal Fashion Week.

Montreal Fashion Week has just wrapped up at the Arsenal Contemporary Art Complex (a new venue for the week of shows), and we got a look not only at what we’ll be wearing in spring 2013, but also the makeup and hair that will inspire our beauty look. The look at the Anastasia Lomonova show is perhaps too wild for most of us to wear, but you can still make it yours — one you can pull off for the office — whether it’s through the colours, application or styling method.

The makeup

With a strong tribal theme in the clothes (and one furry, Chewbacca-esque outfit), CoverGirl makeup pro Amelie Ducharme wanted to make the skin look particularly golden and luminous. To achieve this, after applying CoverGirl Clean Foundation, she amplified the glow using eye makeup — both the beige colour from Smoky ShadowBlast in Bronze Fire 815 and the gold shade from Eye Enhancers eyeshadow in Dazzling Metallics 119. She used these eye products on the nose, cheekbones, Cupid’s bow and chin. Brows were brushed up and filled in to add to the wildness of the look.

A red makeup from a Make Up For Ever Professional kit was applied to the forehead and blended into the hairline, giving an almost bleeding-like appearance.

Lips were downplayed by applying Tone Rehab Foundation in 165 followed by Olay’s lip treatment to help reduce the natural redness of the lips.

The hair

Hair was similarly exotic, with a nod to North Africa. Denis Binet, lead hair stylist at Montreal Fashion Week, created two twists on either side of the head (after having applied lots of Pantene Classic gel throughout, then Sebastian Whipped Creme mousse to the ends) and secured them at the ends with an elastic. To help keep the twists in place, Binet brought out his inner seamstress, using thread and a curved needle to weave through each twist so they would keep their shape.
