Homemade remedies for chapped lips this fall

When the temperature drops, so too can the health of your lips. Fall weather often causes dry, chapped skin, which doesn’t do wonders for your beautiful smile. Bring back the summer glow your lips once had with these homemade remedies.

Get beautiful lips

Scrub away chapped skin

Chapped lips can really be a downer when you’re trying to get dolled up. Not only are they painful, they also make lipstick look flaky, and gloss can appear clumpy. To get your lips on the path to beauty, you’ll want to begin with a nice scrub.

Nielsen-Massey’s vanilla body scrub

This homemade remedy from Nielsen-Massey incorporates sugar granules that scrub away chapped skin and contains oil, which coats and protects the healing skin underneath.

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl.
  2. Transfer the mixture to a waterproof container.
  3. Keep the container in your shower. Apply a small amount to closed, damp lips while taking a shower or bath. Gently scrub your lips with a soft washcloth. Rinse thoroughly.

Note: This scrub can be used over your entire body as well if you’re experiencing dry skin elsewhere. If you find the exfoliation gets to be a little too much, take a break and focus on moisturizing the area instead.

Create a lip mask

Now that you have a scrub to get rid of unnattractive, peeling skin, soothe that fresh skin that has emerged. A mask is a wonderful way to let some moisture sit on your lips so all the healthy ingredients can be fully absorbed. And it doesn’t get much healthier than the avocado, honey and shea butter that go into Crunchy Betty’s Brewer’s delight lip mask. Head on over to her blog to find out how to create it for yourself!

Use an everyday lip balm

Now your lips are scrubbed and moisturized. Excellent! The only thing missing is your very own soothing homemade lip balm that you can take with you wherever you go. The best thing about homemade lip balm is you can customize it perfectly to your needs. Want something super moisturizing? Include plenty of shea butter or Vaseline. Looking for something that smells great? Then dress up your creation with a few drops of your favourite essential oil. You can even add some colour so your lips will feel healthy and pretty at the same time. Pretty Gossip provides a great tutorial on how to create and customize your own lip balm, so head on over to her blog to find out. Enjoy!
