You’ve decided that you’re over the party scene and want to ring in the new year in the comfort of your own home? Here are some tips to make your cozy New Year’s Eve more enjoyable!
Get your favourite food ready
Some banquet hall New Year’s parties are lacking when it comes to the quality of the dinner they provide. But at home you have control over exactly what you eat on the last night of the year. So make a list of your favourite snacks, meals and desserts, and get them ready for a night in of festive feasting.! You can even ask your loved ones to help you cook. Pair your meal with your favourite wine, the perfect touch to a New Year’s celebration.
Dress up… or down
If you still want to look your best while you ring in the new year and you’re hosting some friends, go ahead and get glamorous! No one said you have to be going to a fancy party to look fancy. On the other hand, if you’re looking forward to a quiet, casual night in, dress down. Ring in the new year in your pyjamas with your loved ones if you like. The choice is totally yours when you’re at home.
Go ahead and play
Many fond New Year’s Eve memories from my childhood revolve around family card games or board games. Eating and laughing while playing games is a great way to spend quality time with your loved ones as you welcome the new year. If you have kids, ask them to choose their favourite games, and alternate among them.
Remember New Year’s traditions, or make new ones
Whether it’s the traditional midnight kiss or confetti, keep New Year’s traditions alive even at home. If you usually give a loved one a midnight kiss, give someone at home a kiss. If you love watching fireworks but want to stay home, watch one of the celebrations broadcast on TV right before the countdown. If you don’t have any traditions, make a new one this year at home. Continuing traditions will make this New Year’s Eve at home as special or even more so than past celebrations or parties you went to.
Reflect and make resolutions together
If you still haven’t thought of a New Year’s resolution to make, take the night to reflect on the past year, and then make a promise to yourself for the new one. This may inspire great conversation with your loved ones at home. Saying one thing you’re grateful for this past year is also an uplifting start for the new one.
Whatever you decide to do, enjoy the moments together with those dear to you. Happy New Year to you and your loved ones!
