It’s a great big world out there with so many countries to explore and so little time. Thankfully, the crème de la crème of Canadian travel bloggers can help you narrow down your vacation wish list. Our five fave travel blogs run by Canuks are sure to inspire your next trip.
1. Globetrotting Mama
In June 2011, Heather Greenwood Davis and her husband Ish left Canada with their two sons, ages 7 and 9 at the time, to travel around the world for one year. In 12 months, the Davis family travelled to six continents, visiting a total of 29 countries. Davis chronicled the year-long adventure in this blog that’s filled with humour, poignancy and an honest review of travelling with kids. (The verdict: The benefits far outweigh any perceived stress.) You might just be inspired to take a unique family vacation like this yourself.

2. Hecktic Travels
In 2009, Canadian couple Dalene and Peter Heck left their corporate jobs and sold their house to travel the world — and they haven’t looked back since. Bolivia, Ecuador, Croatia, Finland, Italy, Malta and Morocco are just a handful of the countries the Hecks have been to and chronicled in this blog. As house-sitters taking up residence in exciting destinations around the world, this couple isn’t slowing down on the travelling anytime soon. In their own words, “this life is too good.” As the cherry on top, this wandering couple was named National Geographic’s Travelers of the Year in 2014.
Dalene says, “Our blog is an ongoing chronological narrative of our personal journey around the world, giving deep insight into the places we visit and our thoughts as we travel. In our newest section, called ‘In Real Time,’ we invite readers to go behind the scenes and talk more openly about everything, from how they make money to dealing with reverse culture shock.”

Janice Waugh started her blog in 2009, and it’s now one of the top-ranking travel blogs in Canada. Waugh’s personal accounts of her solo travels, along with her tips and advice, will leave you feeling confident that you too can explore the world on your own. If you’re debating whether travelling solo is for you, she offers plenty of advice for those new to travelling alone and tips on how to overcome the loneliness factor. Tracey Nesbitt has come on board to add even more flavor to the blog as the editor and Food & Wine Travel Columnist, whose mouth-watering foodie posts will make you want to eat your way around the globe.
