Women have accomplished a lot throughout history, and March 8 is the day to celebrate all the incredible ladies of years past and present. Check out these meaningful ways you can honour International Women’s Day this year.
Walk in Her Shoes — anywhere
CARE is a leading international humanitarian organization dedicated to fighting global poverty through helping young women and girls in developing nations — and now is your chance to help them out. Its fundraising event Walk in Her Shoes is a worthwhile and easy way to contribute time and money to the cause. It’s as simple as committing to walking 8,000 steps for eight consecutive days and raising money while you do. You can do it anywhere and at any time, so it’s a very doable commitment, and we can’t think of a better time to start than the month of International Women’s Day.
North York Women’s Shelter auction — online
Abuse is a very serious issue that affects many women across the country. And it is organizations such as the North York Women’s Shelter that provide transitional housing and other valuable resources to women and children trying to escape the cycle of abuse. Fortunately there’s a fun and easy way for you to help. The shelter is holding an online eBay auction March 21 to March 25, where you can buy vintage items and luxury experiences, with the funds going to help women in need. Now that sounds like a worthwhile shopping trip.
Dress for Success — Toronto, Ontario
Got some new or gently used professional attire you no longer need? Drop off your blouses, blazers, shoes, briefcases and more at Pretty in the City at 2369 Yonge Street, 2nd floor, in Toronto. Your donations will support Dress for Success, which helps disadvantaged women succeed in the workforce.
Finding Your Voice conference — online
The Global Women’s Inspiration virtual conference is being held for the first time ever this year. From March 4 to March 8, 15 speakers will be discussing topics that concern women all over the world, such as self-esteem, wellness, entrepreneurship, empowerment and more. And you can gain all their insights from the comfort of your own home.
