Bacon bones

- 1/2 cup onion-free beef broth, consommé or stock, or one bouillon cube (onion free) dissolved in 1/2 cup warm water
- 1-1/2 cups whole-wheat flour

- 1 egg, slightly beaten
- 1/4–1/3 cup real bacon bits
Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
- Add the beef broth and the consommé or stock to a medium bowl.
- Mix in both flours, the egg and the bacon bits.
- Knead the dough until it forms a ball, then roll the dough out to 1/4 inch thick.
- Use your favourite cookie cutter shapes to form the biscuits.
- Bake on a silicone or parchment-lined baking sheet until browned and cooked through, approximately 20–25 minutes.
- Let the cookies sit on a wire rack to cool and harden before serving. Store them in the fridge for up to one week or in the freezer for up to six months.
treat tip
Make your doggie treats in proportion to the size of your pet. Little mouths need smaller treats, while larger breeds can handle a larger-scale snack. For fun, use cookie cutters for pets to create bones, hearts, paws and animal-shaped goodies.

Animals can have food allergies just as humans do, so when introducing new foods or ingredients, watch for any adverse reactions, such as itchy skin, vomiting, diarrhea and breathing problems. If any problems occur, eliminate the suspected food allergen from the diet, and consult your veterinarian.
