Sightseeing
If you live in a city that’s on the tourist map, why not act like a tourist for the day and take a tour of your own city? Ride the tour bus for the day, or take a bike or walking tour. Just because you live there doesn’t mean there aren’t new things to learn and see. You might just be surprised by what you discover.
Festivals
Attending summer festivals is a great way to enjoy a staycation. Do some research, and find out what festivals are coming your way or close by. Get your summer festival fashion in order, gather up your partner or your girlfriends, and enjoy a fun-filled festival weekend.
To get you started, here are some Canadian summer festivals to check out >>
Beat the heat
Keep cool during your summer staycation by heading to a pool. If your friends have a pool, perfect. If you yourself have a pool, even better. But if neither is the case, then head to your local public pool or to the beach, and spend the day cooling off, swimming laps and relaxing in your new bikini. Then on the way home, treat yourself to a few of your favourite magazines, go home, put your feet up and spend the rest of the afternoon reading about your favourite celebrities.
Fine dining
We’re all creatures of habit and tend to frequent the same restaurants, bars and shopping centres over and over again. So why not change things up and visit a restaurant or café you’ve never been to before? Check your local papers and online, and find the perfect fancy restaurant to enjoy a luxe dinner with your partner or friends. Buy a cocktail, and spoil yourself with an appetizer, main dish and dessert. You’re on holiday, after all!
Spa day
Summer is the perfect time to pamper yourself, so make time during your summer staycation to get a mani-pedi or massage or to spend the day at the spa and be spoiled. Head over to that salon you’ve been dying to visit. You’re going to be wearing your sandals from now until the weather cools, so really, you need to get a pedi. It’s not even a luxury; it’s a necessity. Don’t feel guilty about it. Make the time and spoil yourself.
Homeward bound
Don’t forget that there’s nothing wrong with lazing around at home. Take the time to recharge your batteries and to take care of yourself. Prepare a lavish meal, do some home-pampering sessions with your girlfriends, or catch up on some of those books you’ve been wanting to read. Whatever the case, a vacation is the perfect opportunity to relax and recharge, and what better way to do that than by spending your staycation at home?
