Why Lupita Nyong’o’s MTV Movie Awards look is magical

Lupita Nyong’o is a wonderful human being filled with perfection. It’s just a fact. Her recent red carpet look at the MTV Movie Awards only proves our theory.

OK, we are seriously freaking out over Lupita Nyong’o right now. She is an Oscar winner, an incredibly talented actress, a rising fashion icon, a beautiful baby unicorn and possibly an omnipotent being… We love her more than cake.

But we digress. The 31-year-old 12 Years a Slave actress sprang out of the depths of fashion heaven (it appears) and continually dazzles us on the red carpet. Case in point: On Sunday, Nyong’o attended the 2014 MTV Movie Awards wearing the most delicious red carpet dress we have ever seen. We might be witnessing a historic moment in fashion history, y’all.

The gorgeous specimen of human that is Lupita strutted her stuff in a colourful, confetti-like Chanel gown fresh off the fall 2014 runway. It kind of looks as if the actress wrapped herself in double-sided tape and then rolled around in an ocean of candy — but in a good way!

Since we’re visual people around here, we figured the best way to properly praise this look is with a multitude of photos. So here is why we think Lupita’s look is a gift from the fashion gods, sent down to Earth as an example of perfection.

It’s very retro and so incredibly cute. It just makes Lupita look like a precious baby treasure, if that makes any sense. Notice that she kept it simple on the noggin to bring all the attention to her attire.

In theory, throwing every imaginable colour together into a single pot should spell disaster, but somehow Nyong’o makes it work. Actually, she rocks it. This is exactly why we think she is actually a mythical creature.

OK, a colourful dress and bright shoes? Shouldn’t work, yet it does. Lupita, how do you do what you do? If the actress didn’t have such beautiful skin, this look might have fallen flat, so we must give credit to Nyong’o’s own beauty here as well.

It’s a cross between Cleopatra and the disco era, but it manages to come across subtly enough to not detract from Lupita’s ensemble. Her makeup artist is a genius!

Finally, while all the details are wonderful, this gorgeous look would be nothing without Lupita herself. Her attitude, her beautiful features and daring choices make this outfit memorable. Oh, she’s so perfect… We cry now.
