Do blondes have more fun? Once you figure out the right makeup colors to enhance your natural beauty, the answer is a resounding yes.
1. Pretty in pink
Everyday makeup for blondes should be light and natural. Pink or beige eyeshadow, rosy blush and neutral lipstick are almost all you need. Avoid black mascara, and use medium brown instead.

“Blondes have a lot of versatility,” says Sonia Kashuk, makeup artist and founder of Sonia Kashuk Beauty, “They can wear pretty pinks, classic reds, beautiful nudes or bold color. I love a gorgeous monochromatic face for a blonde, usually in pinks or mauves. The skin looks beautiful with pink accents too! Try a perfectly flushed cheek with a rose gold highlighter. I also love to play up the blonde and keep it super soft with delicate nudes.”
2. Glam up in silver
For a special event, experiment with shades of silver and grey. Apply a sweep of light grey eyeshadow over the entire lid, and add darker grey in the crease. Line your lower lashes with metallic silver liner, and use a more muted silver for the upper lashes. A coral blush and lipstick that isn’t too glossy will finish off your evening look.
If you’re ramping up for a night out on the town, Kyrsten Bryant, a professional bridal, fashion and editorial makeup artist, recommends taking it a step further. “Play up one feature — I love a blonde who is willing to wear a bold lip.” When wearing darker lip colors, Bryant suggests using a light champagne color on the eyelids paired with winged black eyeliner and plenty of mascara.
3. Not all blondes are the same
Platinum blondes need to stick to cool colors when picking their makeup. Green, taupe and silver are fantastic picks for the eyes. Steer clear of bronze and copper. For lips, almost any shade of pink can work, and blue-reds are another terrific option. Ditch any lipstick that veers toward orange.
Honey or caramel blondes with golden skin should grab a cherry red lipstick or a shade with flecks of gold. Fairer honey blondes have a lot of versatility and can wear almost any color, though orange- and blue-reds might look better than true reds. Golden or reddish blondes can play up their eyes with a warm shade of purple, while peachy lipstick is always a safe bet.

“Whether [you’re] a blonde or not, skin should have a strategic glow, so down the center of the nose and a highlight on the cheekbones are a must. Especially in the winter months where it’s more difficult to naturally get the glow, you need to create one,” Bryant adds.
4. Consider your eye color
The many makeup options may be the best part of being a blonde. Kashuk agrees that blondes look incredible when playing up one feature, like a strong eye or a strong lip. “For the eye, the possibilities are endless, especially for blondes with light eyes. Use shades of bright or rich colors to really bring out your eyes and make them pop — blue, green, purple, you can’t go wrong,” she says.

Blondes with blue eyes may look best in cool shades, such as grey, silver and steel blue, beauty expert Nina Sutton explains. “Blondes with brown eyes look best in browns and plums,” Nina says, and she advises that eyebrows should be one shade darker than your hair to define your face. When choosing your makeup, you should also take into account your eye color and complexion. If you have a darker or olive skin tone, then try earth tones. For pale blondes, don’t use an eyeshadow color that is so light it washes you out.
And lest you light-haired ladies forget, Vanessa Eckels, Hourglass senior makeup artist, reminds us, “Mascara is a must for blondes, so finish any look with one that adds volume and length. You can use one coat for a natural look or keep building and layering for maximum volume.”
