Change with the seasons
While Paige Padgett, author of The Green Beauty Rules, also recommends matching skin tone to makeup, she believes there can be some merit in pairing brunette-friendly makeup shades to the season. “I love to see brunettes in deep, rich colors like rust and burgundy, especially in fall. One color I think complements brunettes year-round is mauve,” she says.

Love your lips
Remember that big benefit of being a brunette that we talked about earlier? In almost all cases, for day and for night, you can get away with putting on another coat of paint, without looking like you’re wearing too much makeup. And you have your darker locks to thank. Across the board, Padgett says, “Brunettes can carry a dark lip like chocolate or deep berry well. It adds drama without looking goth.”

Waller says, “I love a bold red lip and a well-defined jet black liner on a brunette because it’s such a classic and ultra-glamorous look that they can pull off better than anyone!”
Get a little cheeky
Brunettes clearly have a lot of advantages in the makeup department — with the freedom to go big in their styles and hues — but Jennifer Trotter of Lip Service Makeup, pro makeup artist and beauty expert, reminds us that the cheeks can be a “make or break” finishing touch. “If you’re a brunette with pale skin and brown eyes, don’t forget rosy tones for cheeks and lips. You’ll risk looking washed out without it.”
Waller agrees, saying, “Brunettes can add a lot of warmth and youth to their skin by using a soft pastel pink blush to highlight the cheeks.” Waller recommends that her clients use cream blush to add some glow to the skin, instead of matte powder blush that can make the skin look older.
