One of our favourite trends for summer 2014 is the move for women to go makeup free. Everyone, from models to A-list celebs, is doing it. And the No. 1 way to show you’re baring it all is by posting a sans-maquillage pic of yourself on social media. Here’s how to ace this season’s #NoMakeupSelfie.
Light it up

Everyone — we repeat, everyone — looks phenomenal in natural lighting, so observe your surroundings before snapping and posting an image. Hang out by your bedroom window so the sunlight can highlight the beautiful colour of your eyes, or show off your radiant skin by snapping a shot near a campfire, but definitely step away from any and all things fluorescent. These small, subtle shifts will ensure your natural beauty shines through your pics every time.
Have fun

The #NoMakeupSelfie trend is all about showcasing (and proudly!) who you really are, so have a little fun with your pics. Take some snaps while playing at a park, or post a pic of you having some fun with friends. Someone who is laughing and enjoying life sans makeup is far sexier than someone who has packed it on but is looking dour.
Forget about scars and skin imperfections

One of the many reasons people wear makeup is to cover up a dreaded imperfection — whether it’s a scar from a cat scratch or a bump because of a pimple. The thing is, there are products on the market that can help reduce the appearance of scars. Mederma’s Advanced Scar Gel is a good example. With a simple once-a-day application, your skin’s texture will smooth out, and you’ll be able to bare it all with confidence.
Play with filters

Always take some time to figure out which filter best highlights the tone you’re trying to set with your pic. Avoid filters that make your skin look too orange (fake tan alert!), and generally opt for ones that make pics light and bright. Instagram and Twitter have filters built into their back ends, but apps like PicFrame and Afterlight can help you add some additional oomph to an image.

Smile!

One of the most beautiful things on the planet is the smile of someone who is genuinely happy. Sure, models and Kim Kardashian rock the duck face in their #NoMakeupSelfies, but you? You’re far too gorgeous for such picture ploys. Show your pearly whites for the social media world to see!
