6 Ontario outlet malls worth visiting

No one likes paying full price when shopping. And journeying over the border to snag the deals available at outlet malls in the U.S. isn’t always feasible. If you’re in Ontario, then you can get the deals without having to trek down to the States by shopping at these Canadian outlet malls.

1. Toronto Premium Outlets

Address: 13850 Steeles Avenue West, Halton Hills

Phone number: 647-497-8270

Why you should visit:Toronto Premium Outlets is an outdoor mall with 85 stores that boast savings of 25 to 65 per cent every day. You can snag similar deals to what you usually find at your favourite budget-friendly stores, like Forever 21 and Aeropostale. But where Toronto Premium Outlets really stands out is the number of outlet versions of higher-end stores you can visit, such as Coach, Michael Kors, Burberry, Eddie Bauer, Hugo Boss, Kate Spade, Tory Burch and Hudson’s Bay.

Keep in mind that many of the stores have week-long sales but that the mall experiences a huge increase in turnout on the weekend. So if you want to snag the deals without the long lines and crowds of people, then try to squeeze in a visit on a weekday if you can. You’ll be able to get many of the same deals you would on the weekend, but there will be more stock to choose from and fewer people slowing down your shopping — wins all around!

If you want a heads-up on any upcoming promotions or special events the mall is having, then consider joining Toronto Premium Outlet’s free VIP Shopper Club. You’ll get email notifications about upcoming deals as well as a special coupon book.

2. Outlet Collection at Niagara

Address: 300 Taylor Road, Niagara-on-the-Lake

Phone number: 905-687-6777

Why you should visit: This vast outlet mall, which just opened up in May of this year, is quite the beautiful way to do your shopping. It houses over 100 stores in a gorgeous outdoor setting.

If your Pandora bracelet is looking a little scarce, then you’ll be happy to know Outlet Collection at Niagara has Canada’s first Pandora outlet. It also has Canada’s only White House Black Market outlet as well as many other outlet versions of hot stores, like Tommy Hilfiger, The Children’s Place, Danier Leather, Hugo Boss and Banana Republic. Construction on some stores is still underway, but before too long, you’ll also be able to snag deals at Diesel Surplus, the Kate Spade outlet, Polo Ralph Lauren and Bass Pro Shops Outpost.

And to end all your shopping on a wholesome note, thestar.com has revealed there will be a spot for a farmers’ market on the first and third Friday of every month, starting in August all the way through to October.

Before your visit, be sure to check out the mall’s promotions page to see if there are any extra special discounts you can snag. Even if Outlet Collection at Niagara is a bit of a drive for you, you’ll be in beautiful Niagara-on-the-Lake — just moments away from the Shaw Festival or a beautiful tour or dinner in wine country, so it’s easy to make a day of it!

3. Dixie Outlet Mall

Address: 1250 South Service Road, Mississauga

Phone number: 905-278-7492

Why you should visit:Dixie Outlet Mall has over 135 great stores to choose from, including brand name outlets like the Tommy Hilfiger Outlet, Guess Factory Store, Mexx Outlet, Levi’s Outlet, Nine West Shoe Studio, Journeys Outlet and a Puma Outlet. The mall also houses the only location of Canada’s Man Cave Outlet, which is a great place to get that hard-to-buy-for guy in your life the perfect gift (or to drop him off while you do the rest of your shopping!).

One major benefit of shopping at Dixie Outlet Mall is the fact it’s all indoors. Given the unpredictable (and often very cold!) weather we have here, the last thing you want is to spend your day of shopping running through the rain or cold to get from store to store. So if it’s not a very nice day outside, Dixie Outlet Mall makes for a particularly nice shopping destination.

4. Canada One Brand Name Outlets

Address: 7500 Lundy’s Lane, Niagara Falls

Phone number: 905-356-8989

Why you should visit: Canada One Brand Name Outlets was the first outlet mall to be located in the city of Niagara Falls. It opened 16 years ago and welcomes millions of visitors each year. Choose from stores like Levi’s Outlet, Coach Men’s Outlet, Surplus Official Diesel Outlet, Tootsies Factory Shoe Market, Time Factory Watch Outlet and many more. It also happens to have Canada’s only Lululemon outlet store, so you can get better deals on all your favourite stylish workout gear.

The mall is currently undergoing aesthetic renovations, so you can look forward to a fresh, new look soon. When you do get a chance to visit, be sure to check out the promotions page to see what deals the mall has going on.

Also, it bears mentioning that Canada One Brand Name Outlets is just a 10-minute drive from Outlet Collection at Niagara. So if you want to check out two outlet malls in one go, that can definitely be done.

5. Cookstown Outlet Mall

Address: 3311 Simcoe Road 89, Cookstown

Phone number: 705-458-1371

Why you should visit:Cookstown Outlet Mall is an indoor shopping centre conveniently located just off Highway 400, north of Toronto. It is our very own branch of Tanger Outlets, which can be found all over the U.S.

For the past while, the location has been undergoing construction for a huge expansion set to be completed in the fall of 2014. The expansion will make room for 40 new brands, including Banana Republic, Nike, Calvin Klein and American Eagle Outfitters. This will add to the mall’s already extensive list of outlet stores, which includes Danier Leather, Crocs, La Vie en Rose, Fairweather, Puma, Royal Doulton and Adidas, just to name a few.

You can join TangerClub for exclusive coupons and offers, or simply check out the promotions page to find out what special deals you should keep an eye out for when you visit.

If you live farther east in Ontario, then there’s cause for joy, because an Ottawa Tanger Outlet store will be opening at Highway 417 and Huntmar Drive in October 2014. Or if you can’t wait for those deals, then consider heading over to Quebec’s Saint-Sauveur or Bromont Tanger Outlets locations.

6. Southworks Shops & Antiques

Address: 64 Grand Avenue South, Cambridge

Phone number: 519-740-0380

Why you should visit: There’s no question that Southworks Shops & Antiques is an outlet experience unlike any other. It is housed in an old 19th century factory that was used to build everything from engines to durable saws over the years and has now been converted to hold more than 28 outlet stores as well as a 30,000-square-foot antiques mall.

Some of the stores include Samsonite Factory Outlet, Corningware Corelle, Oxford Mills Bedding & Towels, Best of British, Closeout Shoes and Shabee Chic. Some of the store names might not be as familiar as what you’re used to seeing at other malls, but if you can recognize a good deal, then you’ll feel right at home.

If you’re planning a visit, then be sure to print off the mall’s current coupons sheet, as you never know if one might come in handy.

Go on the hunt!

Outlet malls are great places to score deals because so many stores offer great deals all in one place. But they aren’t the only option. Many stores have stand-alone outlets just waiting to be discovered. Often, though, because they’re selling directly to you rather than through a fancy storefront, they’re tucked away in locations you won’t easily find by sheer chance. Fortunately a quick Google search of “(store you’re interested in) outlet” can quickly lead you to any outlet locations the store has available. Then it’s just a matter of going shopping!
