6 Things to keep you entertained between music festivals

Wondering how to fill the void now that the annual Boots and Hearts Music Festival is over? We know exactly how you’re feeling. It was the biggest date on our calendar year, and in the blink of an eye, it’s over! Now what?

Cheat on Boots and Hearts with other music festivals

The end of Boots and Hearts is like breaking up with someone you’re still madly in love with. It makes you sad. You feel like nothing is ever going to compare to what you’ve had, but there are plenty more fish (or should we say, festivals) in the sea. You just have to start looking.

Get your groove on at the Pentastic Jazz Festival in Penticton, British Columbia. It’s three days of some of the hardest-hitting jazz bands.

Scream! Then there’s Riot Fest in Toronto, with big-name headliners like The Cure, The Buzzcocks and Death Cab for Cutie. It runs from Sept. 6-7, 2014.

Halifax Pop Explosion is a festival with 180 bands in 20 venues over 5 days from Oct. 21-25, 2014.

Countdown to Boots and Hearts 2015

The dates haven’t been released yet, but when they are, tickets will go like lightning, so you’ll want to be ready. In the meantime, you can relive the memories from the 2014 festival by visiting the festival’s website. Trawl through photos, watch the 2013 after movie, and keep an eye out for updates.

Throw your own country music festival

Why wait for Boots and Hearts 2015 when you can throw your own festival? You don’t even have to invite anyone else. Just crank up the stereo with your favourite Blake Shelton and Toby Keith CDs, close your eyes, and it will be just like being back there — well, almost.

With smartphones, it’s easy to capture the memories you want to last forever with a camera. Instead of storing the photos on your phone, upload them to your computer, and transform them into a hardcover coffee table book you can treasure forever.

Make your own waterslide

One of the biggest attractions at Boots and Hearts this year — aside from the headlining acts — was the Slip ‘n’ Slide. You don’t have to wait until next year to relive the fun — make your own. All you need is a hill, a large sheet of plastic, water and some dishwashing detergent for extra slip.

Have your own Boots and Hearts after-party

Fire up the outdoor grill, put out a few beers, invite a few friends over, and crank up the country music. No Boots and Hearts after-party is complete without its very own ball pit. All you need is some netting, at least 20 Swiss balls and to embrace your inner child.
