Time names its Person of the Year, and we couldn’t agree more

While some thought it’d go to Taylor Swift, Beyoncé or the Ferguson protesters, others were hoping it’d go to the Ebola fighters. And they were right.

Time Magazine‘s Person of the Year are the Ebola fighters — a team of doctors, nurses, researchers and volunteers who took on the task of battling the disease and “risked and persisted, sacrificed and saved,” writes Time‘s Managing Editor Nancy Gibbs.

She continues: “Ebola is a war, and a warning. The global health system is nowhere close to strong enough to keep us safe from infectious disease, and ‘us’ means everyone, not just those in faraway places where this is one threat among many that claim lives every day.

“The rest of the world can sleep at night because a group of men and women are willing to stand and fight. For tireless acts of courage and mercy, for buying the world time to boost its defenses, for risking, for persisting, for sacrificing and saving, the Ebola fighters are Time‘s 2014 Person of the Year.”

In its Person of the Year December issue, Time has included stories from Ebola fighters, in their own words. You’ll find stories from the directors, the scientists, the caregivers, the nurses and the doctors.
