10 Festivals you have to attend before you have kids

You’re young only once, and once you have kids, well, it doesn’t mean the end of your life, but it does mean you’ll be up to your armpits in diapers and toddler tantrums. Make your life extraordinary now by taking advantage of some events you won’t be able to attend once you start reproducing.

Are you up for some mudslinging? How about a little mud wrestling, mud sliding, conga lines and techno music? This muddiest festival on earth takes place about two hours from Seoul and attracts thousands of tourists each year. With 9.9 million square metres of mud, you can let down your hair and go wild.

When: April 13-15, 2015
Where: Thailand

It’s the world’s biggest water fight in celebration of Thai New Year, and everyone gets in on the action. Be prepared to get drenched all day long until the sun sets. Everyone is a target, with the exception of pregnant women and monks, plus you could find yourself in trouble if you start a water fight in a hotel lobby or in restaurants.

When: Aug. 6-10, 2015
Where: Croatia

You’ve never been to a Soundwave festival like this one. It’s been described as the new Ibiza — beaches, sun, an awesome lineup of dance music and eye candy for miles. Imagine losing yourself in the music, with not a care in the world as the sun sets in a spectacular fashion across the bay. Early bird tickets have already sold out, which just goes to show how popular this event is.

This is the mother of all music festivals. We’re not just talking three days here, ladies. This is a whole week of lazy days on the beach and getting your groove on until sun-up, with huge names like Florence and the Machine, Blasterjaxx and Jamie Woon, just to scratch the surface.

When: Aug. 30-Sept. 7, 2015
Where: Black Rock City, Nevada, U.S.

When it comes to festivals, there are no words for Burning Man but “epic.” In the middle of nowhere, an entire metropolis comes to life for one week every year, with around 50,000 people in attendance. It’s an eclectic mix of art, self-expression, nudity and freakiness, culminating in the burning of an effigy. Think Mad Max meets Trainspotting.

6. Oktoberfest

Are you ready for 16 days of drinking beer and gorging on pretzels, wurzel and sauerkraut at one of the world’s biggest fun fairs? It’s full of beer tents, tourists wearing lederhosen and non-stop carnival rides.

7. La Tomatina

When: Aug. 26, 2015
Where: Buñol, Valencia, Spain

Let the food fight begin. It’s time to do battle with 125,000 kilos of tomatoes. La Tomatina is the world’s biggest food fight. It’s free, and all you have to do is show up. Leading up to the tomato-slinging is a week of music, fireworks and street parades, so it’s worth staying for at least seven days.

8. Running of the Bulls Festival

When: July 6-14, 2015
Where: Pamplona, Spain

Calling all those who have a death wish or are big on adventure. Each year a couple of hundred participants are injured during the Running of the Bulls, but injuries are usually not life-threatening. There have also been around 15 deaths reported since 1910, so your odds of survival are fairly high. Should you make it to the end in one piece, imagine the stories you can tell your grandchildren.
