Sweet and simple DIY heart pillow for your Valentine

Decorate for Valentine’s Day with these easy DIY soft heart pillows, perfect for tossing on the couch or bed. Make a few in different colors, patterns and sizes for all around the house.

Supplies:

  • Fabric
  • Sewing scissors
  • Pins
  • Embroidery thread
  • Needle
  • Polyester thread
  • Sewing machine
  • Pillow batting
  • Fabric erasable marker
  • Iron (if needed)

Instructions:

Step 1:

Start by drawing and cutting out a heart shape from 2 pieces of fabric. You can do this at the same time with 1 piece of fabric right side up and the other right side down. Fold in half and draw a half heart and cut out with your scissors.

Step 2:

Optional step: Iron your heart cut-out if needed to get out the center crease or any wrinkles.

Step 3:

Turn your fabric so that both pieces are right side together on top of one another

Step 4:

Pin together the fabric pieces.

Step 5:

Sew around the outside of the heart using a 1/2-inch seam allowance. Leave a 2-inch opening toward the bottom of the heart to turn right side out. Remove the pins as you sew. This will create your pillow case.

Step 6:

Turn your pillow right side out through the small opening you left at the bottom of the case. Use a thin blunt object to help push out the seams if needed.

Step 7:

Stuff the pillow with batting through the hole in the bottom.

Step 8:

Using embroidery thread and a needle, sew a simple stitch (cross stitch or blanket stitch will add a bit of character) over the open hole at the bottom of the pillow. Tie off the stitch and cut off any excess thread.

This completes your pillow. Make a few more in different sizes and colors. Use them for your couch, on a side chair or as an extra toss pillow for the bed to add a bit of Valentine’s Day cheer to your home decor.
