An at-home pampering session is about as good as it gets: no distractions, no interruptions, and a set amount of time to relax and enjoy your own company. Get ready to bliss out …
Essential #1: Plan ahead
Clear your schedule for the evening so you have nothing do afterwards: there’s no bigger buzz-kill than having a time limit on your relaxation session. Also, make sure you stop at the bottle shop on the way home for a bottle of sparkling or white wine.
Essential #2: Set the scene
Let the people around you – your partner, kids, flatmates or family members – know that you’re having a bath. Make it very clear that you will be unavailable for the next 90 minutes, and then head to the bathroom and set up.
Essential #3: Gather props
Collect as many scented candles and votive candles from around your house as possible – it’s a case of ‘the more the merrier’, as you want the room to glow! Place the candles haphazardly around your bathroom, being careful not to place them too close to any curtains or flammable items.
Essential #4: Raid the kitchen
Arrange some cheese, fruit and crackers on a plate, and bring this into the bathroom with you, along with a champagne flute and a bottle of wine. If you want to read a book or a magazine, bring this into the bathroom as well.
Essential #5: Prepare your sanctuary
Grab a couple of big fluffy towels and a terry towelling robe and place them near the bathtub – you’ll want to slip into your warm, soft robe as soon as you’re dry! As you run a steaming hot bath, add some bath crystals or a bath bomb to the water, and then light all of the candles.
Essential #6: Close the door
It’s time to slip into your own private pampering oasis! Shut the door and lock it, then undress and enjoy the fruits of your labour. A warm, sweet-scented bath, wine and cheese, and a good read – what more could you ask for?!
