Throw a Brit Award themed party

With the Brit Awards showcasing the best of British music, why not throw a party and invite all your friends over to celebrate. From Adele’s show-stopping performance last year that propelled her to global mega-star status to Geri Halliwell’s famous union jack dress, why don’t you mark the occasion as well?

How to decorate

Red, white and blue is the theme here as we get all patriotic with a rock twist. Traditional balloons, bunting and streamers are all great touches to get the party going. Remember, though, this is the Brits not the Proms, so you need British flags with jagged edges and maybe even a Sex Pistol’s poster? It is all in the name of fun after all!

Why not cover the walls with posters and pictures of the best British bands past and present. You will be surprised how people’s memories are jogged by seeing an old face that used to be on their wall as a teenager.

A great touch for a glittery look is packs of stars, which are available from most high street stationery stores such as Paperchase. Mix the colour-themed stars together and sprinkle them over tables and surfaces. Choose an all-British playlist for the evening – remembering to turn the music down when an award is handed out or during a performance.

What about food and drink?

Go for after-party fabulous with canapes and dips. Sausages rolls, duck rolls, lemon grass kebabs, risotto balls and crab cakes all make for delicious, little treats. Make sure that you dot around bowls of chips and crisps to stave off any hungry guests.

For drinks, keep things classic with gin and tonic, Scotch whisky and traditional British beer for the men. If you are feeling fancy then go for a bottle of champagne – it’s what the stars will be drinking after all!

Games

Rather than all sit around while the awards are being handed out, keep things fun with Brit Award themed games. Bingo is a great way to interact with what is going on with your TV. Assign every guest an act, such as Jessie J or Adele, and whenever that musician is mentioned the appropriate guest has to do a forfeit or dare. Why not give out your own awards for the night? Get your guests to vote throughout the night and then give the awards out at the end – a perfect way to finish the night!

Dress up

Why not go all out and tell your guests to come as their favourite British singer, past or present? People are more likely to get into the spirit if they are dressed up, and you will be surprised at how much effort people will go to when they get the opportunity to dress up as their idol.
