The Alexander Wang X H&M collection has been revealed in full. It’s certainly sporty — but perhaps more for the athletes among us than the regular gym-goers.
On Nov. 6 you’ll finally be able to shop for the Alexander Wang X H&M collection — if you’re fast enough — so you have a few weeks to decide which sport-themed items you fancy getting your hands on.
Back in April, when the collaboration was announced, New York-based designer Wang said: “I wanted to create a collection where most of the pieces have been designed from scratch. Rather than creating affordable versions of expensive items, I wanted to design true performance pieces that are within the natural price points of sportswear of H&M, so we were able to create the best version of these pieces, through our vocabulary.”
However, be warned: this collection isn’t for everyone. Initially, it sounds like it is. What could be more wearable than sporty black separates? (There isn’t a colour in the entire range other than black, white and grey).
Melissa George looked incredible at the collection’s New York launch yesterday, showing off a washboard tum in a plunging black crop top (£25) and leather trousers (£180). She only gave birth in February — WTF?! But if your idea of sportswear is comfortable and flattering, this may not be up your street. Leggings and revealing crop tops flatter only a select few.

However, there are some pieces in the range that would look great on a fuller figure (and by fuller, we mean bigger than size 6). Actress Dakota Fanning wore a T-shirt from the collection (£35) teamed with funky peep-toe boots (£150). She chose to wear it as a thigh-skimming dress but it would look good with skinny jeans or — for the braver — the range’s patterned stretch leggings. Singer Solange Knowles went for all-out sporty style in a black sweater (£35) and trousers (£40).
Who wore what at New York Fashion Week
If none of that floats your boat but you want to snap up a moment from what has been one of the most hotly anticipated H&M collaborations since they joined forces with Stella McCartney, go for an accessory. Branding is big right now so you’ve got key rings, beanie hats, socks, gloves, towels and bags with “WANG” all over them. We reckon the ultimate accessory is the WANG goggles. Strictly to be worn on the forehead, though.
Our standout piece from the range is the dress Kate Mara wore to the New York launch. It’s the perfect LBD for the party season and its sheer panelling makes it so Alexander Wang (circa 2013).
