Darling DIY mini Minecraft Creeper felt toy

If you have a Minecraft lover in your life, whip up this quick and easy felt Creeper toy. The little green plushie makes a great DIY gift for any Minecraft fan, young or old.

Supplies:

  • Creeper template
  • Polyester felt in several shades of green, black and gray
  • Freezer paper
  • Embroidery thread (green)
  • Tapestry needle
  • Scissors
  • Craft glue
  • Iron (not pictured)
  • Cotton ball (not pictured)

Step 1:

Print out the Creeper template. Tear out a sheet of freezer paper and trace the Creeper onto the freezer paper (make sure the “shiny” part is facing down). Trace the body of the Creeper twice (that will be front and back). Trace the face and the little squares separately from the body.

Step 2:

Cut out the face and little squares of freezer paper into smaller squares. Set your iron to a low heat setting. Iron the freezer paper (shiny side down) onto the felt. The freezer paper will lightly adhere to the felt. Cut out the shapes for the toy. The freezer paper makes the felt much easier to cut out. Once the pieces are cut out, remove the freezer paper.

Step 3:

Glue the face and the smaller squares onto 1 piece of the green body. Give it a few minutes to dry. While the glue is drying, prepare the tapestry needle and thread. Embroidery thread separates into 6 strands. Pull out 2 of the strands and thread them into your needle. Tie a knot at the end of the thread.

Step 4:

The best way to sew 2 pieces of felt is with a blanket stitch. To begin, pin the 2 felt body pieces together. Insert the needle between the 2 pieces of felt. Pull the thread through until the knot is in between the 2 layers of felt. Insert the needle back into the felt about a 1/4 inch from where you first brought the needle up and push through both layers of felt.

Step 5:

Before you pull the thread completely snug, insert the tip of the needle through the loop you just created and pull the thread through. This creates the first blanket stitch. Repeat around the body of the toy, stopping about 3/4 of the way. Tease out the cotton ball and use it to stuff into the body and head of the toy.

Step 6:

Continue sewing around the Creeper, taking care to keep the cotton stuffing in place. When you are finished sewing, secure the seam close with a knot. Re-thread your needle and tie a knot at the end. Insert the needle through the top of the Creeper’s head and pull it through.

Step 7:

Cut the loop near the eye of the needle. Then, grab both ends of the thread and tie a knot. This will create a loop at the top of the toy. Give the little green guy to your kids to hang from their backpacks. They will love it!
